Taking inspiration from living composer Ian Venables's cycle The Pine Boughs Past Music op.39, British pianist Claire Habbershaw and British mezzo soprano Rachel Roper perform a song recital of Ivor Gurney's music, settings of his poetry and music by composers who were his influences and inspirations, including Howells, Venables, Finzi, Vaughan-Williams, Elgar and Stanford.
Claire will be giving the world live performance premiere of Ivor Gurney’s solo piano piece “Autumn”.

Alongside counter tenor James Laing, Claire will perform a recital of operatic arias & songs, at Tramp nightclub, for Divas & Scholars.

Taking inspiration from living composer Ian Venables's cycle The Pine Boughs Past Music op.39, British pianist Claire Habbershaw curates and musical directs a multimedia recital of Ivor Gurney's music, settings of his poetry and his influences and inspirations. She will perform alongside British mezzo soprano Rachel Roper. Audio visual design by Luke Isom.

For over a century Whitman has inspired successive generations of composers. Some were drawn to his unique rhetoric, others to his empathy with the soldiers of the American Civil War. More recently Whitman has been celebrated for his proudly defined sexuality. Our programme explores different facets of this American visionary.

The Complete Songs of Samuel Barber
Julius Drake directs this concert of Samuel Barber’s songs, beginning with his early Dover Beach for baritone and string quartet, and culminating in his late, great cycles for voice and piano.
Earth and Air and Rain
Alongside vocal students from Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Claire will curate and perform a programme of Finzi’s “Earth and Air and Rain” op. 15 and varied Lieder, inspired by the title of Finzi’s cycle.

Alongside postgraduate and opera school vocal students at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Claire will curate a programme of mélodie, including works by composers such as Debussy, Poulenc, Hahn, Ravel and Fauré.
